In 2024, EA. Aquaye Farms Ltd embarked on a major farm expansion project aimed at boosting staple food production—particularly cassava and maize—to meet increasing local demand and enhance food security in the region.
The initiative involved acquiring and cultivating over 100 acres of virgin and fallow land in the Assin South District. The project leveraged sustainable practices, such as conservation tillage, soil testing, and organic soil amendments, to improve yields while maintaining soil health.
100+ acres of cassava and maize planted
Introduced improved, high-yield, drought-resistant seed varieties
Increased average yield per acre by 40% over previous years
Employed 70+ seasonal workers, primarily youths and women, during peak periods
Created supply contracts with local food processors and traders
Reduced rural unemployment in the project zone by providing consistent labor opportunities
Utilized crop rotation to maintain soil nutrients
Integrated manual and mechanized farming methods to improve efficiency while involving local labor
Applied organic fertilizers and mulching techniques to promote long-term soil fertility
This project didn't just increase agricultural output—it stimulated local economic activity. Young people, previously idle, found meaningful employment, while women were engaged in both fieldwork and post-harvest processing. The abundance of produce from the farm also contributed to stabilizing local food prices and reducing reliance on imported staples.
