Community Poultry Project – Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA), Central Region
In 2023, EA. Aquaye Farms Ltd partnered with the KEEA Municipal Assembly to implement a Community Poultry Project designed to empower rural households through small-scale poultry farming. The initiative aimed to enhance food security, improve nutrition, and create additional income-generating opportunities for underserved families.
The project began with the selection of 25 households across five rural communities. Each beneficiary received starter kits including:
200-day-old chicks (broilers and layers)
Poultry feed for the first 6 weeks
Drinkers and feeders
Construction materials for mini coops
Veterinary care and disease prevention packages
Farmers were trained by our team in poultry husbandry, feeding routines, vaccination schedules, and simple record-keeping. A rotating veterinary officer also visited farms weekly to monitor flock health and provide treatment when needed.
After a 12-week cycle, participating households saw:
A 15–20% household income increase through egg sales and meat processing
Improved household nutrition due to access to fresh eggs and poultry
Increased youth interest in agribusiness, especially among school leavers
The project not only created a model for sustainable home-based agribusiness but also strengthened EA. Aquaye Farms Ltd's commitment to community-led development.
